June 2009:

MBAvolunteers increases its minimum donation amount from $100 to $175 per application review. The decision was made after assessing both the time volunteers take to review applications and after benchmarking our service against similar application review services (e.g. consultants, other current MBA student review services).

On average, an application review takes around 3-4 hours. Given the extremely busy lives of MBA students and alumni, we found that the time we take to provide thorough reviews should yield more donations for non-profits.

Also, after reviewing our competition, we found the cheapest application review service to charge $250 per application (while the most expensive service charged $600). Therefore, an increase of our minimum donation to $175 appears to be more than justified, also considering that the money raised goes directly to non-profit organizations.

May 2009:

Our first application season has come to an end. We raised a total of $4,600 by reviewing 42 applications for 23 different business schools! The main beneficiaries in order of donations received were Doctors Without Borders, Asha, and Amnesty International.

After using our service, each applicant receives a link to a survey where we gather feedback on our service. Most applicants are very satisfied with our service. Below are the results to two questions asked on the survey (n=17):

Did the quality of the service provided by MBAvolunteers meet your expectations?

  • Exceeded expectations: 41%
  • Met expectations: 47%
  • Somewhat met expectations: 12%
  • Did not meet expectations: 0%

Would you recommend us to friends/co-workers?

  • Yes: 88%
  • Maybe: 12%
  • No: 0%

We hope your applications to business school have been successful. If you will be attending a top business school this fall and would like to volunteer then please get in touch with us.

Have a great summer!
