Prepare well by checking out the following common interview questions:
Undergraduate Degree
- Why did you choose your particular major?
- What classes did you enjoy most and why?
Work Experience
- Describe your current career history. Why did you make the choices you made?
- How did you transition into your current field (if your undergraduate major was something different)?
- What is your typical day/week at work like? What is your role?
- How has your role progressed over time?
- What project are you currently working on?
- What was your biggest challenge at work, and how did you handle it?
- Describe a recent conflict at your workplace (e.g with a subordinate, supervisor, co-worker, client etc.). How did you resolve it?
- When did you not meet a deadline and what did you do?
- When did you face an ethical dilemma and what did you do?
- When did a team project fail and what did you do (this could also be outside of work)?
Leadership
- Please describe your leadership resume, starting with whenever you like
- How has your leadership style evolved at your job? Provide examples other than ones mentioned in your essays.
- Describe a time when you helped someone succeed
- What do you think makes a great leader?
- When did you lead a team? When did you have to develop someone on the team?
- Describe a time you had to implement a change and make your team follow you
- Describe a leadership style you admire and try to emulate
- Describe a leadership experience where you had to depend upon another person/other people for success
- Provide leadership examples not mentioned in your essays, outside of work
- What would you do if a team member wasn't performing well?
- Describe a situation when you suggested an idea and failed
Career Vision
- Why do you want to pursue your particular post-MBA career?
- How will your current job help you achieve this?
- Why are you switching industries (if applicable)?
- Why do you want an MBA? Why now? How will it help you achieve your goal?
- What do you think will be most challenging in achieving that goal?
Random Questions
- What do you consider to be the most pressing issue in today's global economy today?
- If you could sit next to anyone in class / have dinner with a person in the past, present or future, who would it be?
- Tell me about a time when you eperienced culture shock
- In two years after graduation, what three words would your team members use to describe you?
- What are you strengths and weaknesses?
Personal Questions
- What do you do outside of work? What do you do for fun?
- What inspires you most and why?
- What movies and books do you like? How have they made an impression on you?
- Name three words or phrases to describe yourself to others
- Describe any experiences you have had abroad
Entrepreneur Questions
- Why did you want to start your own business? What motivates you to succeed?
- Elaborate on the company you have started. Why did you go into that field?
- If your company were to succeed, what would it look like?
- How would you secure funding for your company?
- What will you do with your company once you are enrolled?
School Specific
- Why school XYZ? (This one will always come)
- Which other MBA programs are you applying to? How will you decide where to go if you get accepted to all schools [your answer of course should favor the school you are interviewing for :-]?
- What classes are you most interested in and why?
- Which extracurriculars will you become involved with, if accepted?
- How will you contribute to school XYZ? Name three things.
- What do you think your biggest challenge at school XYZ will be?
- What do you hope to get out of school XYZ, in and out of the classroom? Which specific skill-sets are you hoping to pick up?
Follow-up Questions for the Interviewer
- Generally, ask those questions that you really want to find out about. Don't ask questions for the sake of asking them or you will bore your interviewer.
- Discuss any significant event (e.g. promotion) since you submitted your application in case you haven't made the admissions office aware of this yet
- Discuss concentrations you are interested in (e.g. Finance, Entrepreneurship, etc.) and ask what the school offers in these fields aside from things you already researched
- Discuss any special programs, clubs, or initiatives that are of interest to you
- If financial aid is critical to you, ask about aid sources and its availability
